Urban Design

AKA places for public life

Streets, parks and squares are the connective tissue of our towns.

They are where we encounter others, learn what we share and where we differ. They are the basis for public life (and therefore, democracy).

We weave together the technical, social and environmental aspects to enrich public life for your community.

Our towns and cities are complex systems. The environmental, regulatory and logistic requirements can be overwhelming and - if you’re not careful - they dictate our public places. When that happens, it feels like there is no place for people in our towns (or at least no place that people actually want to be).

Because we exist to enrich public life, we put the human experience (individually and collectively) at the heart of our thinking. We harness technical knowledge gained over 2 decades of experience to find practical solutions that serve users (after all, public transport and sanitation is supposed to help us - not the other way around!)

This means you get public places that work, effortlessly.

That encourage your people to move, socialise and connect, just the way the want to (and maybe some ways they hadn’t thought of!)

That make your communities safer, greener, more biodiverse and resilient.

That keep your traders, maintenance team and infrastructure providers happy.

perfect if you want:

  • safe, active and high amenity public places that feel unique and ‘of their place’

  • 21st C places - biodiverse, climate responsive, supprting active transport and inclusion

  • “Powerhouse Place is a benchmark for our time; an exemplar of doing more with less and putting the human experience at the core of every design decision. It balances Country against the industrial heritage of its place, ensuring the Mighty Murray River remains the hero of the precinct while a new level of amenity offers a myriad of possible experiences in a generous and welcoming way.”
