Sustainability Masterclass
In 2024 our little, low budget regional project won the highest award for Sustainable architecture in Victoria, as well as an award at National level (the silver medal for Architects)
❎ It wasn't certified under rigorous (and costly) sustainability programs
❎ It didn't include high-tech systems (we simply couldn't afford them)
❎ Our client's brief didn't set any sustainability targets
How did our little project get recognised amongst cultural centres, schools and commercial projects with both bigger budgets and strict client targets?
You can find out at this Thursday's Institute of Architects Sustainability Masterclass, free for members
Spoiler alert - it's because we radically shifted how we approach sustainability. Instead of minimising the impacts of the building we've designed, we try to improve each system our building will meddle in (social, financial and environmental).
This shift for us was a serious a-ha moment💡
Sustainability moved from one-of-many decision making tools (alongside compliance, cost and others) to the driver of decision making and design.
And the best bit?
We're not done.
Our little hemp buildings that stormed the awards are just the beginning of exceeding client expectations whilst quietly creating climate resilient places.
